Persistent Prayer

“Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up…” (Luke 18:1)

Last Sunday Jack Singh was baptised at our combined Thai/International service. It was a special day. So special that Jack’s niece, Ayesha, along with her husband and mother, flew up from Melbourne to be with us. Why would they go to all that trouble just for a baptism? Here is some of what Ayesha shared with us last Sunday.

Today, I stand as a very proud niece on the decision my uncle has made to make Jesus the centre of his life and proclaim it.

One day my uncle was looking at the church opposite from his kitchen window and something moved in him that made him decide to once and for all change his life and not look back. And look where he is standing today.

For context, I am the first in my family in 10 generations to have given my life to Jesus, a decision I made 6 years ago. I remember when I visited my uncle around that time from Melbourne, I decided to include him in my salvation prayer list, which I prayed daily, continuously till today. Today marks the day where my uncle is now the 2nd one in our family to be giving his life to Jesus. Today is also the day that marks an answer to a prayer - a prayer that I thought was almost impossible and thought God would reach other people first in my prayer list. But we know that in Ephesians 3:20, God is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, God has revealed His glory through my uncle’s transformation.

When I heard this news first from my mum, I was ecstatic and overjoyed, completely in shock that my God answered a prayer that had become a routine for me over the years. I give Him all the praise and glory! I encourage this congregation to do the same, just like Jesus encouraged us to persistently pray like in the parable of the persistent Widow in Luke 18.

Mamu, I can assure you that today heaven is roaring and applauding for you and for everyone else who is getting baptised today. Luke 15:7 says that “I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over 99 righteous persons who don’t need to repent”. God loves you very much and He is proud of you.
