Read the Times

5 October 2025

‘Now is the time of God’s favour, now is the day of salvation’ (2 Cor 6:2). How much better off we would be, if we were able to read the times. At the start of 2023 NVIDIA shares were trading at around $15. Today you have to pay more than $186 – that’s a missed opportunity. The wily farmer, knowing drought was on its way, would stockpile feed even if the grass was green. As a church, we would already know, with certainty, how to achieve the best long term outcome for our facilities.

We entertain our vain fancies, but, the truth is, only God knows the future. We cannot consistently read the times. Instead, we must trust God for the future, not depending upon our own wisdom, but His loving care. We walk by faith, not by sight.

However, we can know the ultimate end of all things. The Bible tells us that God has reserved a day for judgment. His righteous wrath will punish sin and destroy all that is in rebellion against him. That day is still ahead, but only because of God’s mercy. Peter tells us, ‘God is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance’ (2 Pet 3:9).

We must understand the times. We do not know what tomorrow holds. But we do know that ‘the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar… and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare’ (2 Pet 3:10). Now is the time of God’s favour, now is the day of salvation. Seek refuge. Do not delay. Today is the day to repent and be saved.
