Limitation is a Gift

One of the effects cancer has had on my body is long-term anemia. The doctor said that unless the cancer completely disappears, this problem will likely remain with me for the foreseeable future.

In practical terms, it means that I get tired very easily now, and the tiredness can come at random times, often without any warning. (Of course, this also gives me more excuses to refuse my wife’s requests to do housework!)

However, this limitation has also been a blessing to me. It has made me more careful in considering what I should or should not do. It helps me be more disciplined with my daily routine. Whenever I have the energy, I quickly make use of the time to read the Bible, practise the piano, and exercise. It has also made me treasure time with family and brothers and sisters in Christ even more.

In fact, everyone has their own limitations, whether in abilities, resources, wealth, and so on. Many times we think that having more is a blessing, but in reality, limitations can also be gifts from God. God created each person with His good purpose and intention. So while we should understand the gifts God has given us, we should also understand the limitations He has given us.

Rebecca and I will continue to serve as best as we can. At the same time, we will be mindful not to overwork ourselves. If you need us in ministry or would like to meet up for fellowship, please feel free to invite us. If we are unable to make it, we will simply decline with peace and ease.
