Creation’s Praise

Psalm 148 is a song of praise. Here is a sample; Praise Him sun and moon. Praise Him all you shining stars…Praise the Lord you mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars, wild animals and all cattle…Praise Him kings of the earth…young men and maidens, old men and children. The entire created order is called upon to rise up in one massive chorus of praise to God.
We often talk about praise as if it consists of little more than vigorous Christian singing or impressively worded prayers. However, if I read Psalm 148 correctly, God is praised when the created order functions as God intended it to. As humans, created in the image of God, this will mean that God is praised whenever our lives reflect God’s image back to himself. This may involve singing and prayer. It will certainly involve godliness and faith. Ultimately we can only praise God by being united with Jesus ‘who is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being’ (Heb 1:3).
Next time you’re standing at Echo Point in Katoomba, join in with the whole Jamison Valley and exalt the name of the Lord. Next time you find yourself marvelling at the beauty of a flower, or smelling its sweet perfume, whisper a little word and tell it to praise the Lord. It can’t help but bring glory and honour to the God who made it. And while you’re at it, make sure you join in with the flower. Become, in your life and conduct, a symphony of praise to the Lord.
