GOI Mission Camp 2: Central Baptist Church is Super Special

In the Mission Camp: one poster caught my attention. “We are super special because we have grown up in a multicultural environment.” “On average, we speak three languages,” and more. ” I realized that the very environment we are placed in carries God’s purpose within it.
In fact, Central Baptist Church is similarly “Super Special,” and there are two aspects that are especially precious to us. First: We are in the heart of Sydney. This is a crossroads of the world. Some people come only for a few weeks as tourists, some stay for six months to study, and some arrive as new migrants. No matter what, God brings them among us so that we may welcome them, get to know them, and allow the church to become their spiritual home.
Second: Unlike China or other restricted countries, we enjoy great freedom and abundance here in Australia. Stable pastoral care, gatherings and fellowships in different languages, and the freedom to share the gospel and gather publicly. In many parts of the world, these are luxuries.
So should we reflect: since God has placed us in Sydney, at CBC, and given us such freedom and resources, what does He want us to do?
Perhaps the answer is simple: God has placed us in a “Super Special” position where we don’t even need to travel to the other side of the world to do missions, because “the nations” have already walked into our church. Therefore, we cannot remain as spectators, but are called to actively participate in His purposes and work. Sometimes it may be as simple as a hug, a shared meal, a prayer, or faithful companionship: yet these small acts can leave an eternal mark on someone’s life.
May we continue to be faithful where we are, and may CBC be a place where people encounter God.
