Good Gossip

Last week I commented on the destructive nature of gossip. Gossip is like deadly poison. Everyone associated with it is at risk of permanent damage. Falsehoods abound and relationships are stretched simply because people are unable to control their tongues.

Gossip spreads like wildfire as ‘privileged’ information is cast to the wind. Most often, our ‘privileged’ information portrays the person being gossiped about in a negative light. Spreading it around it helps us feel as though we aren’t that bad after all – certainly not as bad as the person being gossiped about.

So, is there ever good gossip? I believe there can be. What do you do when you have hear some really good news that you can freely share with anyone you want? Well, if you’re like me, you spread it around, you cast it to the wind. It’s good news! It’s good gossip. Good gossip builds others up rather than tearing others down.

We have the best news on the planet. God is real. There is forgiveness available for all of our failings. In the midst of despair, true joy can be found. We can know God and be changed by him. There is resurrection hope beyond the grave. The Gospel is good news. It is the greatest news.

So please, start your tongue wagging. Gossip the Gospel! Spread the Word. Such good news can scarcely be kept in check. Talk about it whenever you have the opportunity. Cast it to the wind, and God willing, this news will spread like wildfire throughout our city. Gospel gossip, rather than being poison, will be living water to all who partake of it.
