Encourage Your Leaders

Moses was not permitted to enter the Promised Land after he disobeyed the Lord at Kadesh (Numbers 20):12. The Lord was not about to leave Israel without a leader. He told Moses, ‘You shall not enter the land. But your assistant, Joshua son of Nun, will enter it. Encourage him, because he will lead Israel to inherit it’ (Deut 1:38).

Take note of this: the Lord did not tell Moses to ensure Joshua was adequately trained, nor to admonish him and correct his faults, nor to oversee and correct his every decision. The Lord told Moses to ‘encourage him because he will lead Israel’.

Our Nominations Committee will soon begin seeking nominations for those willing to serve on our Leadership Council in 2027. Furthermore, ‘Vision 2030’ looks forward to us being proactive in raising up, equipping, and sending leaders from our church to serve a needy world. Effective leadership is vital, both for our church and society. How, then, should we respond to those courageous souls willing to take on the responsibility of leadership?

The easiest thing to do, and often our default response, is to find fault. We can all see how things could be done better (particularly if we were in charge). However, God calls us to respond with godliness and maturity. Rather than faultfinding, we should excel at encouragement.

I am so grateful for the constant encouragement I receive. I pray that this might continue and that we may grow to be a fellowship where encouragement is always our default response. If you have been blessed by another’s ministry, let them know. Your encouragement will be sure to spur them on towards love and good deeds.
